Couple little updates for the Mind's Eye:
Updated the wear schedule for the Yomiko Readman and Sen/Spirited Away costumes to reflect my attendence at AC3. Also updated the Dark Fairy cosplay entry.
Art wise, because I haven't had much time to scan stuff, only one picture: a belated b-day present for Mael in the form of Train.
Costume update:
Dark Fairy (original)
So... yeah. I got the costume done in time. A few things didn't quite turn out as planned, mainly the skirt. But the top was nice. But here's a break down of each part
Top/Corset:
My favorite part. Turned out quite nice in the end. Grommets in the back weren't as much of a pain as they could have been because my father found a grommeter (punch the holes and crimps the grommets) in his workshop. That was a godsend (there were 18 grommets, each of which I would have had to do by hand). A black ribbon was substituted for the black-leather grommeted belt/ribbon around the waist because the (faux) leather thing doesn't exist in black where I live. But the ribbon worked nice and might actually have looked better overall. The straps were made up and turned out nice. Found out that to get the point on top leading into the straps, they need to be topstitched.
Skirt:
Well.... I finished it. Unfortunately the pattern didn't mention that unless you want to look like a bumblebee (or stripey) that the mesh and the underskirt really should be the same colour. I didn't have enough time after finishing the skirt to fix it, so I wore the skirt I made for the AN dance instead. I plan on buying some black fabric dye sometime in the near future and seeing if I can dye the skirt into something usuable.
Accessories:
The cuffs and the choker didn't get made (they were going to be made like the straps), so used my choker and gauntlets from the AN Dance. The socks were pure black seeing as I managed to rip the entire bottom out of my purplish-black striped ones. THe boots were my whore-boots, which I still love to pieces. Earrings were these plastic danglies from Ardenes which ha d bunch of pieces shaped like feathers. I wear them lots now.
Hair:
ohh... the fun part. I had bought a couple of bright red hair pieces from Ardenes (they're on elastics and would go on a pony tail). Then did my hair into pigtails, shoved theses on, covered them with my real hair so that bits of the fake red would show though (along with the red in my real hair). I went from having little buns (think two-bite brownies) with my real hair, to having the big honking cake-muffins of buns with thes fake hair. I was happy.
Wings:
:nervous laugh:: they're still laying on my floor as wire frames. THe mesh is beside them. Never did get around to figuring out how to connect them together and to a harness so they never got finished. Will finish them eventually.
Future plans:
I want to see if I can salvage the skirt, and I need to finish the wings. Also, after wearing the courset for four hours, I found out that I need to shorten the boning in the side by about half and inch each in order to break decently. And there's a few very minor wear and tear things that need to be fixed.
And finally, a couple of pictures (taken in Buru's Kitchen):
